Renowned for its trailblazing research, outstanding education, and clinical excellence in a leading academic health sciences institution, the UCSF Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Department turned to Chapter Three to enhance and redesign their online presence to improve patient-provider experiences, provide information to the research and education communities involved in radiology and biomedical imaging, and increase awareness of their internationally-renowned facility at China Basin.

Chapter Three responded with a clean, uncluttered homepage that highlights UCSF’s three specialties: patient care, research, and education, creating a three-zone user experience through which patients, researchers and educators can proceed.

The first step was the implementation of a site-wide re-skin and style guide, bringing the UCSF Radiology Department’s façade up-to-date. The information hierarchy, color palette and navigation in particular were given special attention, the layout streamlined, the look and feel made simple and fresh - resulting in an open and airy design that makes it easier for patients and health care physicians to engage with the site’s content and improve delivery of information between these audiences.

UCSF is dedicated to patient care and they knew that for a lot of potential patients, scheduling and preparing for a radiology exam could be an unnerving experience, and wanted a web site that would make it as easy as possible for patients to get informed, connect with health professionals, and get prepared for an upcoming exam.

Chapter Three created a simple and flexible design that allowed for more informative, comfortable, and guided interactions among patients, health care physicians and UCSF department staff.

The new UCSF Department of Radiology site is an informative, comprehensive and reassuring browsing experience, the result of UCSF and Chapter Three working together to recognize the needs of patients and physicians alike to develop a more warm and welcoming entryway into the often intimidating world of radiology and biomedical imaging.
