Wrapping up today, Drupalcon Amsterdam created a big buzz around Drupal 8. A crew of over 2,100 participated in sessions, sprints and keynotes, and celebrated the release of the Beta 1 version of Drupal 8.

Chapter Three’s Bala Bosch and Alex Pott were on the scene. Alex focused on getting the Drupal 8 Beta 1 out of the door, devoting his time to extended early sprints and ongoing sprints throughout the week. The single biggest Beta-blocker contributor, Alex was instrumental in getting the release out during the conference. He also spoke in a core conversation about strategies for funding Drupal core.

Bala attended many sessions that got him excited about contributing to Drupal 8. Some of the highlights were gaining major improvements in site load speed with Render Caching, doing behavior-driven development with Behat and using the streamlined WYSIWYG UI in the Media module. Bala recommends Corey Doctorow’s keynote on open source, backdoors and government interference and this “must-watch” on Drupal 8’s plug-in system. He also took in sessions on the multi-lingual capabilities of Drupal 8, an overview of the Configuration Management Initiative (CMI) and the future of PHP components in Drupal.

Many thanks to Alex, Bala and the rest of the devoted Drupal community for continuing to evolve and grow the tools that we all depend upon.
