National Nurses United: Supporting a Large Website

At Chapter Three we do more than build websites from the ground up. We also support existing websites that require new or additional resources. The type of work we do is flexible and depends on the client’s needs. It ranges from basic maintenance and security updates to more substantial overhauls, cleanup, and feature enhancements.  One major website we support is National Nurses United (NNU).

Admin Dialogs: A Simple Innovation for Better User Experience

Small innovations can have a big impact. The paperclip was just a bent piece of wire that somebody repurposed in the late 19th century and we all now have in our desks. The Post-It note was just a low-grade adhesive applied to a piece of paper before it became a key office supply.

Tackling Complicated Drupal 7 Migrations

As of April 5, Drupal 7 will have nine months before it’s entirely unsupported and becomes a liability. Migrating out of Drupal 7 can be complicated, and this is one reason many organizations have put it off for so long. While it’s true that Drupal 8 and beyond represent a radical change from Drupal 7, in everything from architecture (the introduction of Symfony components) to theming (Twig versus PHP), the path from Drupal 7 to now Drupal 10 is well trodden, and we’re very familiar with it at Chapter Three.

Turning PDFs into HTML with Document OCR

Do you manage a website or multi-site system for a large enterprise? If so, you almost certainly have a PDF problem, since search engines prioritize HTML over PDF content. Government agencies, healthcare organizations, universities, and non-profits tend to have a lot of PDF content on their websites. They usually have little choice, as HTML pages can be impractical or incompatible with public reporting requirements.

Accessibility Audits by Chapter Three

At Chapter Three, we do more than just build new websites and update existing ones. We also advise clients on ways they can improve their websites, and accessibility audits are one of the many services we offer. Online accessibility for people with disabilities has moved from “nice to have” to being legally mandated and non-negotiable. Everything we build here at Chapter Three is put through rigorous accessibility testing, but we also offer these services to owners of existing sites who want to make sure they are accessible.

How Design Systems Evolve

Large organizations with multi-site online ecosystems can be divided into two categories: those who have design systems and those who wish they did. Before the relatively recent advent of the design system, updating a fleet of websites to ensure consistency in components and brand voice was an extremely time-consuming and tedious process, as it still is for companies and organizations that lack such a system.

Next-Drupal 2.0: Making a Good Thing Even Better

Remember Next-Drupal? It’s that thing we used to talk about incessantly but have been fairly quiet about in recent months. Not to worry – we haven’t lost interest. In fact, we’ve been working hard to make our Next.js-powered decoupled Drupal front-end product even better in Next-Drupal 2.0!

Using Storybook for Design and Budget Flexibility

Building a website of any complexity requires effective coordination between developers and designers – and between both these parties and the client. In a typical project, designers ideate and build a mockup based on visual, UX, and UI elements, while developers determine if the design is feasible and, if so, get to work coding the site. The client leans in at key moments to offer feedback, and the process continues.

Broadening Your Agency Search Across Time Zones

A San Francisco-based agency, Chapter Three primarily attracts clients from California and the West Coast. While remote work has become common, clients tend to gravitate to agencies close to home. With a three-hour time difference separating the coasts, West Coasters might find some comfort knowing their web partner is probably still at work if they run into issues late in the day. There are real disadvantages, however, to limiting your agency search to a single geographical area.
